Whilst it has always been a subject and point of attraction for a Meta-physician, but it may not be an area of interest for others. Attempting to have discussion around human-understanding to an astronaut, we may get an answer that let me have a trip to moon and back and then I shall have that conversation with you. A soldier may be thinking about winning battles and a doctor about saving lives. The philosophers were almost always criticized that, ‘what else you do, except for sitting in your arm-chair, thinking and then attempting to generalize the results to entire mankind’. The philosophers have always listened to this and have tried to answer in their own ways. Some have done this by their actions and other by other philosophies. Avicenna had contributions in the subject of Ontology-Epistemology and wrote the ‘Cannon of Medicine’ too that had been the backbone of practice of medicine for centuries in medieval times and certainly the gateway to modern medicine in West.  John Locke another prominent figure in Ontology was a prominent British physician and friend of Issac Newton. We all know about Descartes’s Cartesian triangles, the contributions are varied and consistent throughout the course of history. Where there is a thinking-being, where there is a process of understanding, there is a question that how do we understand.

How about the manifestations of human understandings that we observe every day? Imagine the understanding of a scientist, then there is understanding of religious people, understanding of a criminal, of a healer, of a parent, of a child, collective understanding of a community, of politics, of friends and of family; all raise the question every day that how the process of understanding is carried out. There are no anatomical differences in our archetype as human race, how do we differ in our thinking and understandings so much then?

Although it is an unbroken. consistent chain and continuity of these thinkers and philosophers throughout the history of mankind, who have contributed towards our collective understanding of this. However for sake of simplification and understanding the major point of views we shall focus on Empiricism as a first step and what is the contribution of  school of thought of empiricism towards the question that How do we understand.
